Last month, when I officially launched dawsoninkonline.com, I knew it had to be someplace I could speak my mind. Where I could present the best of me… online. I mean, since it was a gift, I knew I had to display my gifts. And if you take a look at the site, I’m sure you’ll see my best. I’m proud of that.
Even with that, I wanted to do something more. Something that would showcase what I’m all about as well as the best of others. Two weeks ago, after seeing several different lists that usually appear this time of year, I knew what it had to be. I knew what I wanted to do.
So here it is… The #INK80, a list of 80 people of color who are making contributions to society, and to the culture. What makes this list special is that it will feature folks I know, giving them their flowers while they’re still here, and especially now during this ridiculous 2020, when it seems that those contributions may go unseen. Unnoticed. Or under-appreciated.
Yes, the list will be ranked, but not by “importance” or “influence”. Nah, that’s not how I roll. Every contribution is equally important and influential. Instead, it will be ranked in alphabetical order. So if you’re ranked #80, your last name is probably “Y.” [Heh. I crack myself up.]
It will be broken down into sections (#shoutout Biggie, “Sky’s the Limit”), with the labels Activist, Advocate, Artist, CEO, ChangeMaker, Creator, Entrepreneur, and Innovator, encompassing all that these folks are and all that they do.
So starting next Monday, October 12th, on the day that most Americans refuse to recognize, I will list the first 10 names. The entire list will be unraveled over two weeks, with 10 names appearing on the site each Monday through Thursday.
Can’t wait to share this list with you. Can’t wait for you to get to know each honoree. Can’t wait to present them with their flowers. This one is for the culture. Let’s GO!
